Did You Know?

While Old Main is our source of pride and history, other buildings on campus are changing and new buildings are going up.  Renovations to Ozark Hall, Vol Walker Hall, and Hotz are expected to be completed summer 2013.  A new residence hall, Founders Hall, held a beam signing on January 18, 2013 and is expected to be completed this summer also.

From the President

May not only signals the end of school and the unofficial start of summer, it also means transitions are in order for both new and seasoned alumni. This month also provides us a chance to reflect and remember those who have served our country proudly. New alumni are set to graduate and many of them are either returning or starting anew in North Texas. The Dallas Chapter eagerly awaits their arrival and hopes to see many new faces among us at future gatherings! As we embark on May and start the last month of our current Dallas Chapter Board, I would be remiss if I didn’t say thank you to all those who currently serve on our board. The successes of the past year would not have been possible without your help! A strong board is one of the keys to the Chapter’s success, and I hope any interested members out there will join us for board elections on June 5. Finally, we are fortunate enough to volunteer with a couple of great organizations this month. The next Habitat for Humanity ReStore opportunity is coming up on Saturday, May 18, and we are taking time to honor those who have served and lost their lives on Sunday, May 26. Volunteers will be at DFW National Cemetery that morning to place flags on the graves of fallen soldiers and veterans. Please join us for either one or both of these events, if you can!

It's Another Successful Head to the Hill for the Dallas Chapter!

The Dallas Chapter welcomed high school seniors and parents alike to the annual Head to the Hill student send-off event on April 30. Designed to welcome incoming freshmen to the University of Arkansas as well as those students who have been accepted but are still trying to make their decision, Head to the Hill has traditionally been one of the chapter’s largest events, and this year was no exception! Nearly 320 students and parents were treated to trivia games for a chance to win university gear and discussions by Dallas-area alumni and DFW Regional Parents’ Club representatives. Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Dr. Danny Pugh served as the guest speaker of the event, connecting with both students and parents alike with pertinent information for once students “head to the hill” this fall. The Dallas Chapter thanks our Student Recruitment Chair, Kelly Knight, for coordinating such a successful event and welcomes our new students who are set to make the U of A their new home this fall!

I Am a Hog...Kristina Pool

Hometown: Mesquite, TX
Degree: BS, Public Administration, '96

I chose the U of A because I fell in love with the campus; you can’t beat walking out of your classroom and having such a beautiful view.

My fondest memory at the U of A, besides graduation, was when the Razorbacks won the NCAA Basketball Championship. I also managed to convince my professor to let us leave class early to go to the airport to greet the players.

My favorite tradition is Senior Walk. It is exciting to have your name in the sidewalk for all future Razorbacks to see. It is also a reminder you were there and that you are linked to the University for life.

My prized Razorback possession is a ceramic Razorback on a football that once belonged to my great aunt, who received her master’s degree at the U of A. I also love my framed diploma, which includes my name from the sidewalk.

I am an Alumni Member because I want to give back to the University and help fund scholarships for others that want to get a college education. I am currently the Membership Chair and encourage individuals to maintain their membership because the funding does assist in the Alumni Chapter’s Scholarship fund.

I am involved because I enjoy sharing stories with other Razorbacks and encouraging other Texans to give Arkansas some serious consideration for their future school.

My favorite Alumni event is Head to the Hill. It is always fun to see how many Texas students have chosen the U of A. I also enjoy the watch parties and cheering on the Hogs with fellow Alumni.

Now back home in Texas, I am a corporate paralegal for a national healthcare staffing company.

I encourage you to join the Alumni organization. It has been a wonderful experience meeting other Razorbacks in the area. Only your fellow Alumni can truly appreciate your excitement for the University and being a Razorback.
